Walsh Jesuit rolls Brecksville; Norton picks up key conference baseball and softball wins

BOYS TENNIS

Walsh Jesuit 4, Brecksville 1

The Warriors (10-6) picked up straight-set wins at first and third singles from Navy recruit Caleb Miller and Joseph Demboski on Wednesday.

Walsh won in straight sets at first doubles thanks to Michael Ulrich and Michael Vallone.

Charles Kealy and Charles Snow won 6-2, 6-2 at second doubles for the Warriors.

The Bees picked up a win from Raghavan Rengaraju.

Revere 5, Tallmadge 0

Merit Wagstaff, Colin McDonald and Dan Choi swept singles action for the Minutemen (11-0, 7-0) in Suburban League American Conference action. Akshay Elango and Sam Lazbin and Anant Adury and Will Krew won in straight sets in doubles play.

North Canton Hoover 4, St. Vincent-St. Mary 1

Colin Fitzgerald, Hunter Holloway and Jackson Vance earned wins in singles matches to lead Hoover (13-3) past STVM (7-2).

Metro Athletic Conference Tournament

Cloverleaf won at first singles (Joe Donnelly), second singles (Carter Betts), first doubles (Steven Manbeck-Aidan Gruber) and second doubles (Daniel Jervis-Austin Cummings) to win the tournament. Norton’s Luke Mortell (third singles) prevented the sweep.

BASEBALL

Norton 7, Cloverleaf 1

The Panthers (10-6, 9-1) completed the sweep of the Colts (10-9, 9-2) to take over sole possession of first place in the MAC thanks to a big day from Carter Metz (two singles, three RBIs, run) and Owen Easterling (two doubles, two runs, RBI). Norton blew things open with a five-run sixth inning. George Antal allowed one run in six strong innings for the win.

Archbishop Hoban 5, Dover 3

The Knights (12-7) stormed the Tornadoes thanks to Mike Ciavolella (two singles, two RBIs, run) and Nolan Holmgren (single, double, RBI, run).

CVCA 5, Manchester 0

The machine that is the Royals (19-1, 9-0) continued to roll in the Principals Athletic Conference thanks to John Harabedian (3-0), who pitched a four-hit complete game and struck out four. He also had two singles and an RBI. Trevor Vojtkofsky belted a double and triple, scored three runs and had an RBI. Andrew Hendrickx added an RBI double.

Ellet 11, Kenmore-Garfield 0 (5 inn.)

T.J. Brown (1-1) threw a one-hitter for the Orangemen (9-5, 5-0 City Series). Camden McLeod (double, triple, RBI) and Trenton Fink (two singles) led Ellet at the plate.

Green 2, Jackson 0

The Bulldogs (9-5, 5-3) were led by Jacob Rollyson (5-1) and Brady Rollyson (three singles, two stolen bases) in a key Federal League game. Jackson's Jaxon Clark (4-1) struck out 10.

Lake 3, North Canton Hoover 0

Connor Campbell pitched a four-hit shutout with three strikeouts to lead visiting Lake (10-6, 6-4 FL) over Hoover (8-6, 4-4). Lake's Grant Nehrenz and Evan Larimore had two hits apiece, Mason Champagne walked twice and Logan Brady stole two bases.

Brecksville 6, Twinsburg 3

Chris Bach and Jack DiCocco went a combined 4-for-6 with two doubles for the Bees (6-4, 4-4 SLNC). The Tigers (10-4, 4-4) were paced by Chris Bryant (3-for-3, double, RBI).

Tallmadge 3, Kent Roosevelt 2

Jackson Schwalbach earned his fifth win by pitching a complete game and also hit a single, a double and had an RBI to guide visiting Tallmadge (12-5, 8-2 SLAC). Eric Prior added a double and an RBI for the Blue Devils, who won their eighth game in a row.

Barberton 3, Aurora 1

Magics pitcher Michael Kuziak limited the host Greenmen to five hits and one earned run on 89 pitches in a complete-game performance. Barberton's Carter Macko had two hits and an RBI and Hayden Macko had a hit, two walks and two runs.

University School 8, St. Vincent-St. Mary 5

The Preppers broke a tie with a three-run seventh against the Irish (10-7). STVM was led by Aistis Miskinis (three singles, three RBIs), Michael Bronowski (single, double) and Shane Adamczyk (two singles).

SOFTBALL

Walsh Jesuit 10, Notre Dame Cathedral Latin 0 (5 inn.)

The Warriors (13-2) finally got to play their first game at home and Natalie Susa (9-1) made sure the Crown Conference game was a win for Walsh with nine strikeouts. Brianna Wise knocked a three-run double and Sienna Tepley had two hits.

Tallmadge 11, Barberton 1 (5 inn.)

The Blue Devils (15-4, 9-3) inched one win closer to a SL American Conference title thanks to Zoe Rensel (single, two home runs, seven RBIs) and Marley Queen (two singles, two RBIs, two runs). Cassie Moore hit a home run for the Magics.

Archbishop Hoban 12, St. Joseph Academy 0 (5 inn.)

Faith Porter (14-5) and Robyn Ryan combined throw a three-hitter and strike out nine for the Knights (15-7). Taylor Gerring (two doubles, three RBIs), Sidney Conti (double, three RBIs) and Lacie Quarles (double, two stolen bases) paved the way for Hoban. Ryan, Gerring, Quarles and Kennedy Bray scored two runs apiece.

Norton 4, Cloverleaf 0

Natalie Bird (12-2) threw a one-hitter and kept the Panthers (14-5, 8-1) in the MAC title race with a win over the Colts (9-12, 5-5). Ann Pazdernik (two singles, run), Bailey Acord (triple, run) and Tiffany DeStefano (triple, two RBIs) were the big bats for Norton.

Coventry 7, Woodridge 1

Lexi Dimeff and Alexis Jackson hit home runs to keep the Comets (10-1, 8-1) in the MAC title conversation. Kendal Gregory had a home run for the Bulldogs (3-11, 1-8).

Tuslaw 5, Manchester 3

Kylie Johnson hit a dramatic walk-off grand slam in the seventh inning to lead the Mustangs past the Panthers.

Tuslaw's Meridith Rankl pitched a complete game and allowed three runs on six hits, struck out 14 and walked none. Rankl also had an RBI single and teammate Macaira Fox went 2-for-4. Manchester's Grace Bowe had two hits, including a solo home run in the first inning.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

St. Vincent-St. Mary 25-25-23-25, Kent Roosevelt 22-16-25-15

Cullen Sivak totaled 19 kills and four service aces to lead the Irish to a Senior Night win. STVM's Ben Phillip added 29 assists, Jayden Palma had seven digs and Nick Hale had two blocks.
