Walsh University has been selected a finalist for the NCAA Division II Award of Excellence for the fourth straight year.
Walsh's partnership with the Vs. Cancer organization last spring was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference's representative. Nine of the university's athletic teams raised almost $12,000 and awareness for child life programs and pediatric brain tumor research.
The winner will be announced Jan. 22 at the 2022 NCAA Convention.
"We are honored that our student-athletes and staff have put so much time and effort into serving the community and supporting a great initiative," Walsh Interim Vice President of Athletics and Athletic Director Jason Fautas said in a release. "One of our priorities for our athletic department and student-athletes is to be servant leaders in the community.
"It is a testament to everyone involved that made this community initiative a success."
Each finalist will receive $500. The winner will receive an additional $2,500, the runner-up will receive $1,250 and the third-place school will receive $1,000. All prize money is intended for future Student-Athlete Advisory Committee initiatives or community engagement events.
Walsh has been named a finalist five times in the last six years.
