Walton County Commission greenlights two new all-way stops

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS — The Walton County Commission has approved the introduction of two new "all-way stops" that will affect two intersections within the county.

Here is what we know.

Where are these stops located?

The first traffic change will be at Old Jolly Bay Road and Ramsey Branch Road in Freeport. This is a three-way intersection that is currently controlled by a stop sign on the northbound approach on Jolly Bay Road.

"I am surprised we had not done that a lot earlier," said Commissioner William McCormick in reference to that intersection. "It's hard to navigate coming around that curve."

The second intersection is Hunters Ridge Road and Walton Road near Walton County High School in DeFuniak Springs.

Chairman Danny Glidewell also notes that the changes to that intersection will improve the safety conditions in and around the area of the school and adjacent neighborhoods.

What's next?

According to Staff Engineer Chance Powell, the county will paint stop bars on the road and install the stop signs. For two weeks, signs will be posted around each intersection to notify motorists of the traffic change. After that two-week period is over, the stop will be unveiled to the public.
