Walworth County to end public COVID-19 test site

Jul. 27—ELKHORN — The Walworth County Department of Health and Human Services will stop offering COVID-19 tests starting Saturday, July 31.

The tests have been offered since last summer by the Wisconsin National Guard and through a partnership with Covenant Harbor, according to a news release.

The number of tests has decreased from hundreds to two or three per day since vaccines became available, and accessibility to other testing resources has "stabilized," according to the release.

Residents can access COVID-19 testing in Walworth County at Walgreens, Mercy Walworth and Aurora hospitals, and five at-home testing options. The federal government is paying for testing at Walgreens and is slated to continue for the foreseeable future. Testing available through UW-Whitewater is expected to continue through August.

Walworth County Public Health can resume testing quickly if the need arises, according to the release.
