'WandaVision' Is Continuing Its Story When the New 'Doctor Strange' Movie Comes Out

From Good Housekeeping

Okay – you've finished watching WandaVision on Disney+ and now you're wondering where this is all leading next. While the future of WandaVision remains uncertain, it's been announced that Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen)'s storyline will continue in some capacity when the new Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is released.

Following the first Doctor Strange film in 2016, the upcoming MCU project will focus on the mysterious neurosurgeon and master of the mystic arts after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The synopsis reportedly reads that Doctor Strange will be continuing his research on the Time Stone but will be disrupted when "an old-friend-turned enemy puts an end to his plans" and prompts the Avenger to "unleash unspeakable evil."

Marvel characters that are set to appear besides Wanda include Master Wong (Benedict Wong), Doctor Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) and Rintrah (Adam Hugill).

When is the Doctor Strange 2 movie coming out?

Now for the kicker — Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness isn't scheduled to be released until March 25, 2022. A huge bummer, we know.

The reason for the long wait? According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming delays amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic have caused the premiere date to be bumped twice. Originally, the film was slated to come out in May 2021 but was later moved to November 5, 2021.

The good news is that fans can still look forward to many other shows and films coming out of the MCU in the meantime. Most immediately, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series premieres March 19 on Disney+, followed by the release of the movie Black Widow on May 7 and the Loki show on June 11. Other releases include:

  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (movie) - July 9, 2021

  • What If ...? (animated Disney+ series) - summer of 2021
