Want to become a certified beer brewer? A new ODU program is accepting applications now

What’s brewing at Old Dominion University?

ODU’s School of Continuing Education will offer a Beer Brewers certificate course starting Mar. 13, 2023. The program will guide students through the craft brewing business, a news release stated, from how to get ingredients and raw materials to the handling, processing, packaging and distribution of the product. The program was formed in conjunction with the University of Richmond and the Coastal Virginia Brewery Alliance. It is aimed at people entering or advancing in the craft beer industry.

Classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays at the Norfolk campus and at local breweries. Some sessions will be offered remotely. Students also will participate in occasional Saturday field experiences.

The yearlong program costs $2,499, including materials.

The curriculum is approved for Related Technical Instruction (RTI) in a Virginia Registered Apprenticeship program — the first in the U.S. approved in support of the craft beer brewing industry, the news release stated.

Apply through Feb. 28; early decision deadline is Jan. 31. For details visit tinyurl.com/odubeerbrewer
