Want to drop off a toy for the Tommy Toy Fund or volunteer? Here's how you can help.
The Tommy Toy Fund, in partnership with United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, and its days of giving are fast approaching, and many local first responders and local businesses are working hard to help thousands of children in Eastern Connecticut have a brighter holiday season.
Several events are on tap:
• Troopers from Troop D of the Connecticut State Police are holding toy collection drives on Saturday and Dec. 11 at Walmarts in Putnam and Brooklyn, the Ocean State Job Lot in Brooklyn, and the Chaplin Fire House. All begin at 9 a.m. and go to 3 p.m.
• The Plainfield Police Department is holding toy collection drives at all three Dollar General stores in Plainfield on Saturday and Dec. 11. Both sessions are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Killingly Police is holding toy collection drives at the Dollar General on Route 12 in Dayville on Saturday and Dec. 11. Both are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• The Atwood Hose Fire Company will collect toys at the Dollar General on Route 12 in Wauregan on Sunday and on Dec. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.
• Resident troopers from Troop E of the Connecticut State Police will hold a toy collection drive at the Lisbon Walmart on Saturday and on Dec. 11.
• Outer Light Brewing Company in Groton is holding a toy drive from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 11.
Here are some of the ongoing toy-collecting events in the region:
• Foxwoods’ Stuff The Bus campaign is running through Dec. 10. Collection bins are near the garage’s main entrance.
• Dixie Donuts in Norwichtown is collecting toys through Dec. 13. A bin has been set up for drop-off.
• Karns Automotive in Groton is collecting toys through Dec. 13.

Want to volunteer?
REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must be 18 years or older, be able to direct traffic and/or clients, lift a minimum of 15 pounds, and stand for the entirety of the shift. Bilingual a plus.
VOLUNTEER DATES: Volunteer dates range from Dec. 9-20. Toy distribution dates are Dec. 15 and 16.
