Want to drop off a toy for the Tommy Toy Fund or volunteer? Here's how you can help.

The Tommy Toy Fund, in partnership with United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, and its days of giving are fast approaching, and many local first responders and local businesses are working hard to help thousands of children in Eastern Connecticut have a brighter holiday season.

Several events are on tap:

• Troopers from Troop D of the Connecticut State Police are holding toy collection drives on Saturday and Dec. 11 at Walmarts in Putnam and Brooklyn, the Ocean State Job Lot in Brooklyn, and the Chaplin Fire House. All begin at 9 a.m. and go to 3 p.m.

• The Plainfield Police Department is holding toy collection drives at all three Dollar General stores in Plainfield on Saturday and Dec. 11. Both sessions are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
