Want to be an extra in an ‘1883’ spinoff series this week? Head to this North Texas town

“Yellowstone” fans have another chance to act in the Taylor Sheridan-created universe with casting now open for another “1883” spinoff.

“1883: The Bass Reeves Story” will depict the story of Bass Reeves, the first black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi River. The limited series will be directed by Sheridan and will star David Oyelowo as the titular real-life lawman.

Talent company Legacy Casting is holding two open casting calls for “Bass Reeves” filming this week and next in Strawn, about 85 miles west of Fort Worth.

The company is seeking an indigenous male aged 12 to 13 years old to play a stable boy. Production in Strawn is set to start Thursday. This is a paid part.

Another broader casting opportunity is open for Black children and adults to play church goers and choirs members. Production is set in Strawn for March 27 and 30. These are also paid parts.

This isn’t the first time Legacy Casting announced an open casting call for “Bass Reeves.” In early January, the company was looking for Union and Confederate soldiers for filming in Fort Worth, Glen Rose and Weatherford.

“Bass Reeves” is the latest show from Sheridan in his expansive “Yellowstone” television universe. The flagship series is currently on its mid-season 5 break and is expected to return to the small screen this summer. The other two “Yellowstone” spinoffs — “1883” and “1923” — are available on Paramount+.
