Lawn signs are beginning to crop up across the state, television ads are being readied for the airwaves and candidates are beginning to go door-to-door.

Election season has come to Kansas.

Voters will head to the polls this fall to select candidates for governor, attorney general, state treasurer, secretary of state and insurance commissioner. Also on the ballot will be U.S. Senate and House races, as well as the Kansas House.

Meanwhile, in six western Kansas counties, residents will weigh in on a special election for a Kansas Senate seat.

Overall, of the 125 legislative races on the ballot, 57 will be contested in the general election. An additional 10 will have competitive primary races but no general election matchup.

The partisan primary will occur on Aug. 2; the general election will follow on Nov. 1. Voters must be registered by July 12 in order to vote in the August election and can do so on the Secretary of State's website or physical locations across Shawnee County and around the state.

The question next becomes who is running near you. Voters can find what will appear on their ballot at the state's Voter View website.

Or, to get a look at all candidates running, you can use our database, which allows voters to search for their district to find who is running. It is both sortable and searchable, helping you better evaluate your choices this fall.
