Want to learn more about working for Amazon in Tallahassee? This upcoming session is for you.

Amazon is beginning its hiring blitz in the capital city.

After posting the first 100 jobs and getting a barrage of resumes, the mega-online retailer is beginning to fulfill its commitment to partner with community organizations to spread the word about future job opportunities it will have at its Tallahassee operation.

With the help of the Office of Economic Vitality, the first of a series of Amazon Pre-Hiring "Information Sessions" will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Dr. B.L. Perry, Jr. Branch Library on 2817 S. Adams St.

This is one of the three possible sessions available for those interested in future full-time job opportunities, starting at $16/hour, with the e-commerce giant.

Owen Torres, a spokesman for Amazon, told the Tallahassee Democrat in March the company was initially focusing on building its leadership team. Now, the focus will be on filling other positions.

Maegan Wynn, marketing coordinator for the Office of Economic Vitality, said Amazon received an influx of applications last week in response to 120 job listings posted on its hiring site.

As of Friday, the listings for jobs in Tallahassee are no longer available on the specific hiring.amazon.com website because of the overwhelming number of applicants, Wynn said. Information about where and how to apply will be discussed in the informational session as well.

"These sessions present an invaluable opportunity for job seekers to glean insights from Amazon representatives, enabling them to successfully navigate the hiring process and increase their chances of securing these highly rewarding positions,” Keith Bowers, executive director of the Office of Economic Vitality Director, said in a prepared statement.

Amazon has said there will be up to 1,000 positions available in the 2.8-million-square-foot fulfillment center on Mahan Drive, off Interstate 10.

Slated to open later this year, the center has faced several delays including supply chain issues and declines in consumer demand due to the economic downturn, according to previous reports.

The information session gives those attending an insight into the company’s culture, positions available and qualifications required.

Torres told the Democrat in March the company also has plans to provide job fairs at later dates.
