Want to live by the beach? Chatham town listed among the most affordable options in U.S.

Affordable housing by the beach would seem to be an oxymoron, but according to one financial site, a Chatham County town fits the bill in both respects.

SmartAsset listed the top-50 most affordable beach towns in the United States with Wilmington Island slotting in at number 25. Biloxi, Miss., led the list followed by Gulfport, Miss.; Port Arthur, Texas; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and a tie between Pensacola, Fla., and Ocean Springs, Miss.

Wilmington Island was the only Georgia city on the list, which was dominated by Mississippi and Florida options, which made up seven out of the top ten cities.

To rank the cities, SmartAsset compiled the average home sale price, rooms per home, annual property taxes and monthly housing costs.

For Wilmington Island, the site listed the average home sale price at $343,750 with an average of 6.8 rooms per home. The annual property taxes came to around $2,495 with monthly housing costs at $1,330.

Now the bigger question to ask is: where is the beach in Wilmington Island?
