We want to meet you: Where the News Leads

Hello, and welcome to Where the News Leads! This weekly series will be centered around some of the stories we've written here at The News Leader.

It can be a space for us to respond to your comments and questions, drop cool tidbits that we had to cut from stories, or just look ahead at what's coming up in the Shenandoah Valley.

It's a busy week in the newsroom, so We The People government reporter Katelyn Waltemyer helps to explain some of the new initiatives that we're trying to connect with more of the community in Staunton, Augusta County, and Waynesboro.

Our efforts have already started with our unofficial "tour" of Staunton, as well as a trip to Elizabeth Miller Gardens and Farrier Court to talk to some of the residents in that area. Katelyn provides some insights from that recent trip that we found interesting, and we talk about our upcoming "mobile newsroom," where we invite members of the community to come meet us at different locations throughout the area to talk to us about what they see in their lives in the Shenandoah Valley.

First, in Staunton, city council is set to meet tonight starting at 6 p.m. for a work session followed by their regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Amongst the agenda are two public hearings, as well as updates on the city's centralized recycling program and a discussion on the Staunton Crossing marketing plan strategy.
