Memorial services next week for Rosalynn Carter in Atlanta and Plains are for invited guests only, but the public can attend some events and are invited to line motorcade routes to pay respects to the former first lady.

Carter, wife of former President Jimmy Carter, died Sunday, Nov. 19. She was 96.

Official times and routes for the motorcade were announced by The Carter Center.

Rosalynn Carter motorcade viewing opportunities include:

  • Leaving Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus en route to Georgia Southwest University on Monday, Nov. 27 at 10 a.m.

  • Leaving GSW en route to The Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta on Monday, Nov. 27, midmorning. Arrival at The Carter Presidential Center around 2:30 p.m.

  • Leaving The Carter President Center en route to Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on the Emory University campus on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 28.

  • Leaving Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 28.

  • Leaving a private ceremony at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains en route to a family-only interment at the Carter residence around midday on Wednesday, Nov. 29. This will be the final opportunity for the people of Plains and visitors to say farewell to Mrs. Carter.

A wreath-laying service will take place at Georgia Southwestern State University on Monday at 11 a.m. in front of Carter I of the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex. The only public viewing area will be in front of the Education Center. Glessner Street and GSW Drive will be closed from 10 a.m. to noon., according to GSW.

President Joe Biden is scheduled to arrive in Atlanta with first lady Dr. Jill Biden on Tuesday to attend Carter's memorial service at Glenn Memorial Church at Emory University.

On Wednesday, the funeral procession arrives in the morning at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia for a service for family and friends.

The casket will then be transferred to a hearse and depart for private interment at the Carter family residence.
