Every police recruit in Indiana spends hundreds of hours doing intense training to become a peace officer, but the money they earn after leaving the academy varies from community to community.
The starting salary in the Hoosier state is roughly $61,000 a year, according to salary.com. Here are the entry salaries and some benefits for police recruits around the Indianapolis area.

Beginning salary: $67,452 for probationary patrolman.

Carmel Police Department
Beginning salary: $66,662

Longevity pay at $250/year for years 1-10 and $310/year for years 11-25 ($7,150 max)
8 hours comp/overtime pay per month for patrol officers
12 vacation days (after probationary year), 13 holidays (plus holiday pay $15/hr. when working on a holiday)

Indiana State Police
Beginning salary: $70,000, effective July 1, 2023, for a probationary Trooper’s salary
Some salary benefits include:
Troopers that graduate from the academy and successfully complete the 14-week Field Training Officer period will receive a one-time $5,000 bonus.
Police employees earn 12 vacation days annually.
Paid vacation, sick, and personal leave time.
Uniform, ordinance, automotive and other equipment are furnished by the Indiana State Police Department.
Group individual or family medical, prescription, dental and vision insurance is available for the employee and eligible dependents.

Lawrence Police Department
Beginning salary: $52,956

Westfield Police Department
Beginning salary: $67,200
