Want to relax around a lake after a massage? You can at this spa’s future Wichita home

If relaxing around a lake after getting a massage or sitting in a Himalayan salt room sounds like fun, then Betty Jones will have what you’re looking for early next year.

The owner of Beau Monde West Spa at NewMarket Square has purchased property at Hampton Lakes, near the northwest corner of 37th North and Maize Road to build a new spa.

Jones said she’s outgrown her space at 21st and Maize Road and will triple the spa’s size from 2,400 square feet to more than 6,000 square feet at 3815 N. Weston St.

The extra space will allow her to double the number of treatment rooms from four currently to eight in the new building.

She’ll also be able to double the boutique area as well and add a men’s locker room.

“Now we’ll also be able to indulge our male clientele.”

In addition to what she called a relaxing outdoor area overlooking the lake, there will be an indoor relaxation room and a backup relaxation room, which can be used for private parties. Jones said that room will hold about eight people comfortably.

She said she’ll also use the room for new workshops she’s planning.

That includes one on breathing techniques for beginning meditation and another on muscle tension and how to stretch. There will be a sleep aid workshop, and massage therapists will teach another class on stretching to prevent injuries.

Jones said the classes haven’t started yet because she doesn’t have space for them.

Also at the new spa, Jones plans a Himalayan salt room.

“That helps a lot with respiratory ailments,” she said of things such as allergies and asthma.

Jones said it also helps with skin issues such as eczema and rosacea.

She said the medical grade salt also has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial benefits.

Jones said the room also is good simply to relax and destress.

There also will be an infrared sauna, which Jones said is a dry sauna.

“It has a wide range of benefits.”

For instance, she said it can help to lower high blood pressure, alleviate headaches and aid in muscle recovery and increased metabolism among other things.

Jones said she’s been planning the spa for more than a year and will break ground next month. She plans a February opening.

By owning her own property, Jones said she’ll have more control over things such as landscaping and choosing who her neighbors are, which she said is important to make sure there aren’t loud businesses around her that could interrupt treatments.

Jones said she’ll have 2,600 square feet to lease to another business as well.

“I’m hoping to lease that to a complementary business.”

With the larger building, Jones said she’ll be able to host larger events for Starkey, an organization that she said is dear to her.

“It’s great to be able to help that organization to support our adult community members who really need that extra support.”
