Want to go to the Super Bowl? Here's a look at some flight options out of Louisville

Has the idea of making last-minute plans for a Super Bowl trip just crossed your mind? Be prepared to shell out not just for tickets to the game, but airfare as well.

Tickets to get into Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will run you at least $6,000, according to most ticket vendor websites, but plane tickets from Louisville to Sin City can run you anywhere from the low $300s (with a catch) to nearly $1,000 depending on when you plan to head out.

Before you call your best friend about that once-in-a-lifetime trip, here's a breakdown on some of the flight prices that will get you to Super Bowl LVIII.

When is the Super Bowl?

Super Bowl LVIII will take place on Sunday, Feb. 11.

What are the cheapest flights from Louisville to Las Vegas?

With the cost of a Super Bowl trip already high, here are some round-trip flights could help you save a little more money. The prices from Expedia are based on a Feb. 10 departure to Las Vegas and a Feb. 12 arrival in Louisville.

  • American Airlines: $624 (with a stop in Charlotte)

  • United Airlines: $660 (with a stop in Denver)

  • Delta Air Lines: $680 (with a stop in Atlanta)

If time is truly no issue, prices as of Monday show a round trip ticket from Louisville to Las Vegas for as low as $354 via Spirit Airlines if you decide to make a mini-vacation out of it and fly out on Feb. 5. The catch? The flight will take a little over 16 hours to get there and a return trip on Feb. 12 is a whopping 31 1/2 hours with layovers included.

What are the shortest flights to Las Vegas from Louisville?

If speed is the name of the game, this is how fast you could get to Las Vegas if you took off from Louisville on Feb. 10, according to Expedia:

  • 6 hours, 16 minutes with United ($860, includes a 1-hour layover in Denver)

  • 6 hours, 27 minutes with American, ($661, includes a 48-minute layover in Chicago)

  • 6 hours, 42 minutes with Delta ($949, includes a 39-minute layover in Atlanta)

Road trip? Get ready to be in your car for a while

Las Vegas is a 27-hour drive from Louisville, according to Google Maps. Depending on the route you take, you will go across 6-7 states besides Kentucky. If you really want to hit the road, be prepared to pay some tolls along the way.

If you are a fan of the Chiefs, you could stop in your favorite team's hometown just to get some extra pre-game hype before you continue on your way.

What will the weather be like?

Las Vegas may be in a desert, but it can get quite cold at night during the winter months. Locals recommend bringing a jacket with you if you head out when the sky is dark, though Allegiant Stadium is thankfully fully enclosed and climate-controlled.

The Feb. 11 forecast shows a high of 62 degrees and a low of 41, according to AccuWeather. Sunny skies are in the forecast during the day.
