Want to support particular nonprofits’ fireworks sales? Here’s where booths are in Modesto

If you want to purchase fireworks that light up the night and support local nonprofits at the same time, there are 52 stands across Modesto that do just that. Starting June 28, these Phantom or TNT booths will be open for business.

For some groups, this fundraiser serves as a major way of financing their efforts. Modesto High School’s football program depends on fireworks revenue to not only purchase new gear and equipment, but also to fund team bonding activities.

“Our coach (Dylan Miller) was able to get a new two-man sled, spirit wear, new jerseys, some new shoulder pads and other odds and ends,” said Modesto High School athletic director Donny Wallace. “Seven-on-seven tournaments and team bonding meals have also been paid for using the money they raised from the fireworks booth.”

For other groups, selling fireworks is not a major fundraiser but is a way to bring the community together.

Paula McDowell, clinical director of the Redwood Family Center, said clients, staff and management come together to help raise awareness as well as money for their cause.

“We have a pretty tough job at the center. Clients are dealing with grief and trauma, which can bring secondhand trauma to the staff. So by hosting this fundraiser, both clients and staff are given a sense of purpose and meaning,” said McDowell. “It reminds us all why we are here but also lets us have some fun and come together as a family.”

Whether it’s religious and faith-based groups, service and entertainment groups, educational facilities, or youth and high school sport groups, there are many nonprofit organizations to choose from.
