Want to try the best dishes from the best restaurants in Mississippi? Here is your chance
Some of Mississippi's best restaurants will be serving up some of their tastiest dishes as part of this year's Taste of Mississippi and for the price of admission, you can sample their offerings.
Money raised from the 7 to 10 p.m. event Monday, April 3, at the The District at Eastover will help Jackson's growing homeless population by benefitting Stewpot Community Services in Jackson.
Taste of Mississippi has existed for over 30 years and highlights menu items and top-tier drinks from high-end restaurants in the Jackson metro area.
General admission tickets are $70 each through April 2, after which the price increases to $90, organizers said.
Director of Special Events and Communications at the Stewpot Community Services in Jackson, Chris Eason, said they expect 1,200 guests this year and hope to raise over $110,000, which was the amount raised last year.
"We're pretty confident we're going to surpass that," Eason said. "We've already sold close to 1,000 tickets and anticipate selling more at the door. We've already raised over $95,000 for the event, which is sponsorship money and ticket sales. We have 31 restaurants this year with over 50 volunteers."
Eason said the sponsorship money raised was over $60,000 last year and ticket sales were 30,000. This year, the expectations are to exceed last year's numbers.
Thus far, $98,725 has been raised this year, Eason said.
"So far this year, the sponsorship amount is $78,000, which is contributed to our new sponsors Storage Max, Hotel and Restaurant Supply Element Well, Independent roofing and Baptist Sunbelt," Eason said. "After April 2, ticket sales will rise to $90 instead of $70."
This year's event will have area restaurants and local beverage distributors competing for Best Appetizer, Best Entrée, Best Dessert, Best Presentation and People's Choice.
"For over 30 years, this event has garnered local and statewide support from restaurants that enjoy supporting Stewpot in its mission to feed, clothe and shelter individuals who are homeless and in need," Stewpot officials said.
All proceeds from Taste of Mississippi benefit Stewpot Community Services, whose mission is to provide for the needs of the poor, elderly and disabled in Jackson's metro area.
The event will also feature a $25 Beckham Jewelry Raffle to win a piece of Beckham jewelry valued at $5,000.
