Stuart, Florida, clinches No. 2 spot in Top 10 best coastal small towns for 2023

With easy beach access and near-perfect, year-round weather, it's no surprise Stuart clinched the No. 2 spot in USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards for best coastal small towns.

The 10 towns highlighted in this list offer tranquility, picturesque views and small-town charm that can be hard to find in more densely populated areas.

Stuart's restaurant-lined downtown, the St. Lucie River, Flagler Park and The Stuart Heritage Museum were some of the local spots highlighted in USA TODAY's ranking. Stuart also offers live entertainment with the historic Lyric Theater and a Tiki Taxi that takes you along the St. Lucie River.

In total, Florida secured three spots on the top 10 list, with Stuart outranking St. Augustine and Sanibel Island, ranked six and seven, respectively.

The No. 1 spot went to Sandusky, Ohio, a coastal town on Lake Erie. It is home to Cedar Point, an amusement park boasting 18 roller coasters.

  • No. 4: Bayfield, Wisconsin

  • No. 5: Provincetown, Massachusetts

  • No. 8: Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

  • No. 9: Nags Head, North Carolina

  • No. 10: Cannon Beach, Oregon
