A Wantage woman was seriously injured after being struck by a car she started and then got out of Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

A State Police investigation determined the 38-year-old woman entered a Ford pickup parked in a driveway on Compton Road in Wantage and started the vehicle before exiting, according to Detective Jeffrey Lebron. The truck then moved forward, striking the victim and causing serious injuries.

She was airlifted to an area hospital following the incident, which took place around 2 p.m. Thursday, Lebron said. The crash remains under investigation.
