‘All I wanted was my baby’: Mother of murdered 5-day-old baby boy speaks exclusively to Channel 11

The mother of a murdered 5-day-old baby boy is speaking to only Channel 11′s Gabriella DeLuca.

Police say baby Jah’Shawn Martin died at the hands of his father, and his death was caused by powerful blows to his head.

“All I wanted was my baby. I wanted to show him what kind of mother I was going to be to him,” De’Zia Spearman told Channel 11.

It’s only been a few weeks since Jah’Shawn was murdered and Spearman’s grief is still fresh.

“I saw his little smile. He loved laying on my chest. He would fall right to sleep,” Spearman said.

Spearman only got to spend 12 hours with him outside of the hospital.

After she gave birth, she was admitted to the hospital again for a blood infection.

During her hospital stay, police say the baby’s father, Shawn Martin, killed his own child — who died from several powerful blows to the back of his head.

Police say Jah’Shawn was at their home with his dad and 2-year-old brother.

According to detectives, Shawn did acknowledge to police that he agreed someone killed the baby, but it wasn’t him and the only other person in the home was the 2-year-old.

“Somebody’s lying, and it definitely isn’t my 2-year-old grandbaby. He can’t explain that. He doesn’t know. And it’s not going to be put on him. Everybody needs to tell the truth,” Dionnetre Humphries, Jah’Shawn’s grandmother, told Channel 11.

According to doctors at Children’s Hospital, the baby’s skull was broken in five places. They compared his injuries to a several-story fall.

“He’s the reason why our son’s dead. He knew. There’s nothing else to say. Whether he’s held for homicide, or negligence, or anything, he deserves it. No matter how much I love him, it doesn’t matter because I love my kids more,” Spearman said.

If you’d like to help the family, a GoFundMe has been made for them.
