Wanted: Charlotte man accused of child sexual abuse a no-show in court

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man accused of child sexual abuse did not show up for his scheduled court appearance this week and now a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

According to Mecklenburg County court records, Nathan Martin, 33, who has been charged with two counts of statutory sex offense and two counts of indecent liberties with a minor, was a no-show in court on Monday, Feb. 12, and had his bond forfeited.

On Feb. 2, a notice had been sent to Martin from the Mecklenburg County Clerk of Superior Court notifying him that his case was scheduled for a trial/hearing on Feb. 12.

On Tuesday morning, an order was issued for his arrest following his failure to appear in court.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police confirmed with QCN in mid-January that the alleged child sexual abuse was uncovered during their investigation into a deadly shooting.

According to CMPD, shortly after 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, officers responded to the 4000 block of Meadowridge Drive for an assault with a deadly weapon.

As they got to the crime scene, they found a man and a woman, later identified as Brandy Cox, 36, who had been shot. Cox was pronounced deceased at the scene. The man, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital, at that time, with non-life-threatening injuries.

A ‘person of interest’ at the scene was taken into custody at that time, but not identified.

CMPD confirmed with Queen City News in January that while investigating this homicide case, certain facts came to light on Martin, leading to his first arrest.

Martin’s exact connection to the December homicide case remains unknown. No arrests have been made yet in connection to the deadly winter shooting.

CMPD said their Homicide Unit has identified and interviewed all parties involved in the December case and is still actively investigating the incident.
