Cinco de Mayo is set to occur on Friday. The holiday is an annual celebration, which occurs every May 5.
The holiday is meant to commemorate the military victory over French forces in 1862 at the Battle of Puebla.
Looking for a local fiesta or a place to have some fun? Here are seven places to celebrate this year’s Cinco de Mayo celebration on Hilton Head Island this Friday.
Aunt Chiladas Easy Street Cafe
Aunt Chiladas, located on the south end of the island at 69 Pope Avenue, is hosting a Cinco de Mayo fiesta full of specials. With live music all day and happy hour from 4-7 p.m., the locale will also have special deals on drinks and tacos. Margarita flights will be available for $15 and tacos will only be $5 all day long.
Aunt Chiladas features a covered outdoor dining area, pet-friendly patio, vegetarian options and a full bar and wine list. Although closed on Mondays, this establishment is open on Tuesdays through Sundays from noon until 9 p.m.
Amigos Cafe Y Cantina
Amigos on the island, found at 70 Pope Avenue, is celebrating Cinco de Mayo this year with $6 margaritas all day long, complimentary chips and salsa and live music with two separate singers from 4-7:30 p.m. For those interested in the locale’s cuisine, the food is inspired from the Gulf Coast of Baja, Mexico to Santa Barbara, California.
Although closed on Sundays, Amigos Cafe Y Cantina is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.
In 2020, the restaurant earned TripAdvisors’ ‘Travelers’ Choice’ award.
Tio’s Latin American Kitchen
Tio’s Latin American Kitchen is celebrating on Friday with cocktail specials. These Cinco de Mayo drinks feature Milagro Tequila, and there will be several cocktails to choose.
Tio’s on Hilton Head Island can be found in the Shelter Cove Towne Centre at 40 Shelter Cove Lane #181 daily from 11 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.
San Miguel’s Mexican Cafe
San Miguel’s, which can be found at 9 Harbourside Lane along the Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, is hosting a Cinco de Mayo fiesta to remember. The waterfront locale will feature live entertainment and all day food and drink specials.
Salt Marsh Collaborative will be playing from 12:30-4:30 p.m., the Ballet Folklorico Azteca Dance will be at 5 p.m. and Rob Ingman will be playing from 5:30-9 p.m.
Bottles of Corona and Corona Light will be $4.25, chilled Lunazul shots will be $5.00, fried fish tacos will be $5.00 as well as grilled or fried shrimp tacos, guac dip and queso dip will be sold for $6.95 and chicken & barbecue nachos will also be sold for $6.95.
San Miguel’s is open daily from 11:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. with Happy Hour from 4-6 p.m.
Top Dawg Tavern
Top Dawg Tavern, which is located at 13 Harbourside Lane in Building 2 along the Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with several specials. The waterfront restaurant will have their eight for $8 lunch from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. For those who wish to celebrate later in the day, happy hour will be in effect from 4-7 p.m. featuring $5 tequila sunrises. Guests can enjoy sights from the marina on the outdoor waterfront patio or at the full bar as they celebrate on Friday.
During the week, Top Dawg Tavern is open from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday.
Holy Tequila

Blue Laguna Mexican Grill & Cantina
Blue Laguna, located at 841 William Hilton Parkway in Suite L, will have two different singers performing live music on Friday by Sonny Bond from 2-7 p.m. and Brian Bazemore at 8-11 p.m.
Blue Laguna is open daily from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
