‘Wants to be loved’: Husky shot in Fresno ready for adoption

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Husky puppy that was shot in the leg in Fresno is ready to find a forever home, the Central California SPCA announced on Wednesday.

Police say on Jan. 17, they responded to Lafayette and Dayton Avenues at 8:30 p.m. after receiving a shot spotter notification and two calls from two different people claiming a man lit off a firework at a dog.

Investigators say the dog, a Husky who appeared to be about a year old, was not aggressive and was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to 24/7 PetVet at McKinley and Fresno Streets.

On Wednesday, officials with CCSPCA announced Balto has now been cleared by the shelter’s veterinarian and is looking for a forever home. Balto is described as a sweet puppy.

“He is the best dog, he has been so sweet ever since he first came in with his injury, and he has acclimated very well into our environment here at the shelter. We have fallen in love with him, all of the staff has,” said Annette Wray with CCSPCA.

Annette says one of the veterinarian techs fostered him for a while, and Balto would go running, lay in his bed, and would love to play. She describes him as a mellow, calm, non-barking dog.

According to Annette, Balto does not get along well with other male dogs, but he does get along better with female ones, and she says if the interested family does not have any dogs, that could be even better. The Husky is said to be neutered and gets along great with everybody, including children.

“He comes up, he wants to be loved on, he wants to lean on somebody, he just wants to have a home. Someone who would really love and enjoy him as we do,” said Annette.

A meet-and-greet is required to adopt Balto. He will make his public debut at the Home and Garden Show on Friday.
