Wapahani sweeps MEC track and field meet; ECI prep and Ball State sports results

MUNCIE, Ind. — Wapahani boys and girls track and field on Friday swept the Mid-Eastern Conference meet at Monroe Central.

The Raiders boys won handily with a score of 166, but the girls edged Eastern Hancock by just two points with a score of 124. Below are the full results from each division.

Wapahani's Nick Cook, Drayden Gates, Isaac Shreve, Jon Shrock, and Kory and Kody Lingenfelter were named All-MEC for the boys, and Maddie Felton, Lilly Neal, Bailey Carpenter, Kendyl Thrasher, and Amya Carr were named All-MEC for the girls.

Raiders champions were Shreve (200m, long jump), Cook (3,200m), Gates (110m, 300m hurdles), boys 4x400m relay team, Thrasher (3,200m), girls 4x800m relay team and Carr (long jump).

Monroe Central champions were Carter Miller (800m), the boys 4x800m relay team, Cole Munchel (shot put, discus), Easton Foster (high jump) and Sami Farmer (shot put).

Daleville champions were Amarah McPhaul (200m), Faith Norris (1,600m) and the girls 4x400m relay team.

Cowan champions were Kyle Pike (100m, 400m) and Madilyn Howell (100m).

Blue River champions were Charlee Gibson (800m) and Ally Madden (high jump).

Wes-Del's lone champion was Jennah Love (discus).

Eastern Hancock won the boys and girls 4x100m relay, and Sydney Springman won the 100m and 300m hurdles. Randolph Southern's lone winner was Brianna Smith (400m).

Shenandoah and Union (Modoc) did not have champions.

2 players make hole-in-one at Muncie Elks

The Muncie Elks Golf Club on Saturday saw two members each hit a hole-in-one on hole No. 12, a 175-yard Par 3. Will Winningham hit a 5-iron, witnessed by Tim Hayworth, and Josh Wooten hit a 4-hybrid, witnessed by Palmer Hill, Rick Glaze and Rusty Jamison.

New Castle ties Connersville

New Castle on Friday tied with Connersville 4-4 after allowing two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Seniors Eli Cooper and Dawson Scott combined for three hits and four RBI's, and sophomore Gavin Frazier allowed just one earned run and three hits in five inning on the mound.

Blue River dominates Seton Catholic

Blue River (7-6) on Friday shut out Seton Catholic 16-0. The Vikings were led by a combined eight hits, two home runs and seven RBI's from juniors Garrett Grim and Clayton Turley, and junior Layke Leonard allowed just one hit with six strikeouts in all five innings.

Muncie Central blown out by Anderson

Muncie Central on Friday lost at Anderson 15-1 after allowing 10 runs in the fourth inning.

New Castle edged by Mt. Vernon

New Castle (13-3-1) on Saturday lost at Mt. Vernon 5-4 after a three-run sixth inning by the Marauders. Seniors Corbin Malott and Jake Barber each tallied one RBI, and Malott took the pitching loss in relief after senior Eli Cooper tossed 5.1 innings, allowing four earned runs and six hits.

Shenandoah splits double-header at Alexandria

Shenandoah (11-8-1) on Saturday split a double-header at Alexandria, both games ending 4-3. Raiders senior Hunter Baker notched two hits and their only three RBI's in the loss, and he and three other Shenandoah hitters each tallied two hits and one RBI in the win.

Winchester splits double-header at Eastern Hancock

Winchester (7-9-1) on Saturday split a double-header at Eastern Hancock, winning 6-5 and losing 13-6.

Muncie Central falls to Lafayette Jefferson

Muncie Central (6-14) on Saturday lost at Lafayette Jefferson 9-1.

Blackford sweeps double-header against Manchester

Blackford (11-11) on Saturday won both games of a double-header against Manchester, 8-4 and 11-5. Sophomore Ethan Morris had a two-hit, five-RBI game, and junior Landon Rogers tallied three hits, two home runs, and three RBI's in the other contest.

Jay County sweeps double-header against Fort Wayne South Side

Jay County (11-7) on Saturday won both games of a double-header against Fort Wayne South Side, 4-3 and 7-5. Junior Dusty Pearson allowed just one earned run in a complete game pitching effort, and hit a two-run home run, in Game 1, and tallied two hits and two RBI's in Game 2.

Yorktown edges Wapahani

Yorktown on Friday beat Wapahani 9-7. The Tigers were led by sophomore Ava McNally (two hits, one home run, three RBI's), and senior Alanah Jones earned the pitching win after allowing just one hit with 13 strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

Winchester edges Monroe Central

Winchester on Friday beat Monroe Central (5-16) 11-10. The Golden Falcons were led by senior Gena Moore (four hits, three RBI's) and Taylor Baker (three hits, two RBI's). The Golden Bears were led by senior Alex McGrath (three hits, two RBI's), and junior Tessa Chesher took the pitching loss after allowing 16 hits and eight earned runs in 6.1 innings.

New Castle defeats Cowan

New Castle on Friday beat Cowan 5-2. Trojans senior Hannah Essert had one hit and two RBI's, and junior Madi Moffitt allowed just two hits and two earned runs in seven innings in the circle. The Blackhawks' only had two hits, and junior Aryonna Bynum tallied the only RBI.

Jay County falls to Heritage

Jay County on Friday lost at Heritage 17-6. Freshman Jozey Shimp tallied three hits, two home runs and four RBI's, and freshman Mallory Winner took the pitching loss after allowing 16 hits and 17 runs, five earned, in four innings.

Blue River loses to Hagerstown

Blue River (0-12) on Friday lost to Hagerstown 18-0.

Yorktown tops South Bend St. Joseph

Yorktown on Saturday beat South Bend St. Joseph 5-1. Sophomore Caitlin LaFerney and junior Lizzy Willis both hit a home run, and LaFerney also earned the pitching win after tossing six innings and allowing just two hits.

Wapahani sweeps double-header over Daleville

Wapahani (10-11) on Saturday beat Daleville twice, 20-3 and 10-5. Broncos freshman Valyn Pattengale totaled three hits and three RBI's across both contests, and senior Paige Petty and freshman Emily Simmons took the pitching losses.

Winchester splits double-header with Knightstown

Winchester (6-11) on Saturday split two games with Knightstown, losing 7-0 and winning 15-2. Moore had her team's lone hit in the loss, but eight Golden Falcons notched RBI's in the victory.

Yorktown falls to Bishop Chatard

Yorktown (18-2) on Saturday lost a close game to Bishop Chatard 5-4. Willis and McNally each tallied two hits and one RBI, and Jones took the pitching loss after allowing six hits and five runs, two earned, in six innings.

Cowan dominates Connersville

Cowan (10-8) on Saturday beat Connersville 11-1. Senior Lauren Smith had two hits, one home run, and three RBI's, and junior Tatum Rickert added four hits, one home run, and two RBI's while allowing zero earned runs in seven innings in the circle.

New Castle splits double-header against Northeastern

New Castle (10-12) on Saturday split its two games against Northeastern, winning 10-8 and losing 14-3.

Shenandoah splits two games with Lapel

Shenandoah (14-9) on Saturday played two games against Lapel, winning 6-0 and losing 11-4. In the win, the Raiders were led by Kaylin Nolan with a two-run double and pitched a scoreless seven innings. In the loss, freshman Tarran Mills tallied four hits and three RBI's.

Jay County sweeps double-header against Hagerstown

Jay County (12-7) on Saturday won both its games against Hagerstown, 10-0 and 13-4. Sophomore Mayson Fraley notched a three-run triple in Game 1, and the Patriots combined for 16 hits in Game 2.

Winchester shot a 166 on Friday won its three-way match over Tri (193) and Randolph Southern (incomplete).

Delta completes undefeated conference season

Delta on Saturday completed its perfect record in the HHC this season with a 5-0 sweep of Shelbyville. The Eagles now have won 12 straight HHC titles, the longest streak in conference history in any sport.

Yorktown wins Hot Dog Invite

Yorktown on Saturday beat Greencastle and Carroll both 3-2 to win the Hot Dog Invitational.

Jay County places 2nd in Lapel Invite

Jay County on Saturday placed second in the Lapel Invitational.

Blackford competes in Elwood Invite

Blackford on Saturday competed in the Elwood Invitational. Anya Uggen finished second and Sissy McNeal finished third.

BSU's Zumbro wins heptathlon, Griffith, Jones win gold at MAC track and field championships

Ball State track and field's Karlie Zumbro on Friday won the heptathlon champion for the second consecutive at the 2022 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships, setting a program record by scoring 5,403 points in the competition.

Charity Griffith and Kayla Jones then won the high jump and 800m run, respectively on the final day of the meet.
