Ward 7 School Committee election night results stand after recount

Nov. 20—LEWISTON — After a Ward 7 School Committee ballot recount, the results reported on election night stand, with a seven-vote difference.

It took city clerk and a team roughly three hours to count all ballots by hand. It confirmed that Donna Gallant unseated incumbent Paul Beauparlant by a vote of 668-661.

Gallant has been vocal about her concerns regarding student safety. She spoke at School Committee meetings this year about her opposition to the organization Maine Inside Out operating within city schools and with students during the school day, allowing some members of the organization to work with students without having undergone background checks first.

Gallant and other newly elected School Committee members will be sworn in at the beginning of January.
