Warm up at the beach with some music, comedy and wine

It’s hard to believe there was a time when our beach towns rolled up the sidewalks with the first sign of cold weather. On the contrary, area bars and restaurants have a lot of entertainment lined up in the coming weeks.

In Ocean City, Fager’s Island continues to host events centered around food, adult beverages and music year round. Tickets are on sale now for next week’s Winter Wine Fest ($64). R&B act Pebble to Pearl will perform at the festival from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11.

Fager’s also has tickets on sale for its seventh annual Winter Warmer event, which will be held from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 26 ($64).

Jazz vocalist Bryan Clark will sing standards from the Great American Songbook at Fager's Island in Ocean City at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6.

This one will focus on craft beers from local and regional brewers, and will include classic-rock band Fizz playing hits from the 1960s to ’80s. In the more immediate future, Fager’s will present a free show by jazz-lounge vocalist Bryan Clark at 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 6.

Elsewhere in Ocean City, Seacrets will host its annual Holiday Bazaar from 6-10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3 ($10). The Morley Hall will be filled with local vendors offering art, jewelry and clothing with DJ Bobby-O providing a musical soundtrack.

Seacrets has also announced an event in the new year that is expected to sell out well in advance. Comedy For A Cause will take place at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, and will feature Keith Purnell, “The Reverend” Bob Levy, Stevie Jay and Chica Loca.

Tickets are on sale now at $75 per table (for up to five guests). All proceeds will benefit the OC branch of the Believe In Tomorrow Children’s Foundation.

In Rehoboth Beach, The Pond nightclub on southbound Route 1 offers its Monday Comedy Night the first week of each month. The Dec. 6 edition will be headlined by Comedy Central alumnus Robert Mac.

It also includes sets by the evening’s emcee, Macy Morris, and special guests Timmy Hall and Danny Charnely. Admission is free, but reservations are recommended; seating begins at 6 p.m., with the laughs starting at 8 p.m.

In downtown Rehoboth, the Dogfish Head brewpub has a free concert set for Friday, Dec. 3. National recording act Sarah Borges & the Broken Singles will play rock and Americana originals from their various albums, accompanied by special guest guitarist Eric Ambel.

All of Dogfish’s music events this fall and winter are taking place on the early side — from 6-8 p.m.

Last week in this column we mentioned that tickets would be going on sale online Nov. 26 for a pair of concerts by country star Jimmie Allen next month at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach. They went quick.

According to Rudder owner Alex Pires, all 1,000 tickets were snatched up in nine minutes. The annual two-day charity event will take place Dec. 17-18, and this year’s recipient will be the Mariner Middle School in Milton.

Hometown hero Allen has also vowed to stage a summer 2022 sequel to this past year’s Bettie James Fest, which drew approximately 4,000 fans to Hudson Fields in Milton.
