Warm-up expected to bring 'above normal' temps ahead of another weekend cold front
Treasure Coast residents can shed their jackets and switch off the heat following a meteorologist’s reassurance that “above normal” lows in the 50 and 60s are on the way by the weekend.
The same Canadian winter storm that moved across the northeast, crippling traffic systems in the South and blanketing some areas in the Northeast with feet of snow, brought below-average temperatures in the upper 30s to South Florida.
Both Vero Beach and Fort Pierce saw 37-degree lows overnight Monday following a weekend of nightly lows hovering around the mid-40s, according to a federal weather scientist.
“We’re going to start warming up,” said meteorologist Robert Haley with the National Weather Service in Melbourne “This morning was definitely the coldest.”
Overnight lows in the 40s Tuesday should give way to 50s and ultimately 60s by Friday, Haley said.
Although it was below average, Haley said it didn’t come close to breaking any records across the three counties.
In 1977, Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties reported lows in the 20s, he said.
Another cold front is forecast for the weekend, which Haley said, “definitely will (bring) a cool down” following a few days of warmer weather.
