Warm weather to give Delaware a taste of spring over the next few days

After freezing temperatures and extreme wind chill paid the region a visit last weekend, warmer weather tells winter to scooch over as Delaware leads into a few days of sunshine and higher temperatures.

Today, Delaware hovers around 55 degrees with mostly sunny skies and mild, light breezes.

Thursday will see a high of 59 degrees against overcast skies. Light rain north and west, possibly to I-95, is possible later in the day.

On Friday, Delaware will reach a high of 59 degrees with some breaks of sun amidst partly cloudy skies. There will be a slight chance of light rain around southern Delaware.

Should we jump for joy just yet, or should you keep your snow shovels on standby? Well, it’s hard to say for sure.

Even with this early taste of spring, Delaware could still be in for chilly days and snowstorms before winter says farewell.

Punxsutawney Phil, our trusted groundhog for all winter weather needs, predicted six more weeks of winter, so we may not be completely in the clear just yet.

The current surge of warmth experienced in the region will continue as we cruise through the end of the work week, but once happy hour hits, you might not be in as good of a mood when cooler temperatures creep in to carry us through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will cool down on Saturday and Sunday before picking up during the following week.

Friday night will bring a low of 39 degrees for New Castle and Kent counties and 40 degrees for Sussex County.

By Saturday morning, New Castle and Kent counties will see a high of 47 degrees, trailed by Sussex County at 45 degrees. At night, New Castle County will drop to 32 degrees, followed by Kent County at 34 degrees and Sussex County at 37 degrees.

On Sunday, New Castle County and Kent County reach a high of 45 degrees. Sussex County will peak at 44 degrees. By nightfall, New Castle and Kent counties will see a high of 32 degrees, and Sussex County will see a high of 36 degrees.

If Punxsutawney Phil could have it his way, we might be preparing for trace amounts of snowfall, but these lower night temperatures are steering clear of chances of wintry precipitation for now, according to the National Weather Service.

Despite the weekend dip, there’s still a reason to have a little pep in your step heading into the work week.

Monday will deliver a high of 52 degrees for New Castle and Kent counties and 49 degrees for Sussex County. Tuesday follows suit with a high of 56 degrees for New Castle and Kent counties and 52 degrees for Sussex County.
