Warmer day Tuesday with more showers lurking

Tonight features clearing skies after a gloomy Monday, which will allow temperatures to drop quickly into the 20s, bottoming out in the low 20s and upper teens. Patchy instances of black ice are possible once again overnight.

Tuesday features partly sunny skies in the morning with clouds on the increase as we head into the afternoon. We’ll see a decent rise in temperatures with a south breeze, as highs jump into the mid 40s. By the afternoon, showers will return, which will eventually switch to a rain/snow mix as we head into the overnight hours before switching to a few flurries early Wednesday morning. Not much snow is expected with this system, but a slick spot or two is possible on roads, particularly in the higher elevations.

Wednesday features morning snow showers, which will switch back over to a mix of rain and snow as temperatures slowly warm. Most of our activity is gone by the afternoon, but it’s a gloomy day overall, with highs in the upper 30s and clouds hanging tough for much of the day. We’ll see temperatures fall back below freezing during the evening, resulting in the risk for patchy black ice once again.

Thursday brings the sunshine back and we’ll warm up after a cold start. An instance or two of black ice will be possible but we’ll see temperatures soar into the mid 40s by the afternoon in what will be a pretty decent January day.

Friday allows a brief system to push into the area. After a partly sunny start, an associated cold front will cross, which could set off a few showers, mainly for the afternoon and evening. There is not a lot of moisture in general with this system and so impacts are not expected to be impressive. We’ll see highs remaining in the 40s once again.

Saturday finally features a sunny day – it feels like it’s been weeks since we’ve had a decent weekend of weather! Plenty of sunshine with high pressure in control and temperatures slightly above average as highs jump into the mid to upper 40s.

Sunday continues the sunny trend with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid 40s with high pressure still in control.

Monday sees an increase in clouds with another system heading in for the afternoon and evening. That will bring with it the chance for a few rain showers that will switch to a flurry or two by the overnight hours, with highs in the low 40s.

Looking ahead, our pattern looks to be a little less busy. Temperatures will trend slightly above average overall for the first half of February but there are signs of a return of colder air once again for the third week of February. Temperatures will slowly moderate next week and high temperatures near 50 degrees look very possible by the end of next week. Help us with our growing community of weather photos with #weathertogether.
