Warner Bros. to film new movie in Sacramento, city says. Here’s what we know so far

Hollywood is coming to Sacramento once again, as crews prepare to film a new movie downtown.

Warner Bros. has permits to film its latest project, according to city officials.

“The city and Sacramento Film + Media Office is thrilled Warner Bros. is filming here in Sacramento and we look forward to sharing more details in the future about the project and the economic impacts this will have in our community,” said Jennifer Singer, a city spokeswoman.

“Tow Away” signs plaster a few Sacramento blocks, including J Street between Sixth and Seventh streets.

The signs warn drivers to not park in the area on Sunday. A photo posted to Reddit and one published by Fox40 on Wednesday night showed a specific permit for Warner Bros. with a time stamp of 1 a.m. Sunday to 2 a.m. Monday.

“Filming days and locations are currently tentative and subject to change, but parking signage will be posted well in advance,” Singer said.

As a storm moves into the area again on Sunday, it’s possible filming could move to Saturday — which is supposed to be mostly sunny. A separate Reddit post Friday morning indicates the shoot might happen then.

Signs at Ninth and H street warn drivers not to park due to a “special event” Friday through Sunday, but do not explicitly cite filming.

Officials have not confirmed exactly when or what movie is filming in Sacramento this weekend.

Warner Bros. is currently filming across Northern California for a movie by filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Regina Hall. Deadline reported in early January that the untitled film had begun production. However, speculation of the film coming to Sacramento has not been confirmed.

On Jan. 30, SFGate covered the movie’s recent activity after production crews filmed at Murphy’s Markets, a grocery store in Eureka in Humboldt County. The film, also dubbed “BC Project,” was seen being filmed nearby Eureka High School.

IMDb, an online entertainment database, has a profile on this new movie under “BC Project.” The plot of the film is still “under wraps.”

Other movies set in Sacramento

Sacramento has been luring Hollywood stars for recent projects.

Most recently, William “Billy” Baldwin and Ashanti were in the greater Sacramento area filming “No Address,” a drama about homelessness.

In May 2023, stars Michael Cera, Kristen Stewart and Michael Angarano wrapped up filming a road trip movie called “Sacramento,” CBS News reported.
