Warner Robins’ Museum of Aviation to host free family day, including F-15 flyover

The Museum of Aviation’s foundation is hosting a Family Aviation Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Warner Robins.

This free event is open to the public and will offer families the chance to meet units from Robins Air Force Base, view select aircraft and witness an F-15 flyover.

“This event has been created especially for families to learn about the exciting world of aviation,” said the museum’s Director of Education and Visitor Experience Melissa Spalding in a press release about the event. “We invite people of all ages to enjoy the museum in a way that is only possible on Family Aviation Day!”

Attendees of Family Aviation Day will be able to immerse themselves in the world of aviation through up-close helicopter viewings, climbing into open cockpits and walking through select aircraft.

In addition to getting a firsthand look at aircraft on the ground, guests will get to watch aircraft in action. Halfway through the event, at noon, there will be a flyover of an F-15 Eagle fighter aircraft.

Visitors will also be invited to meet the pilots and crew of U.S. Air Force and civilian helicopters and learn more about the aircraft exhibits featured in the museum.

Guests will have access to the Museum’s Scott Exhibit Hangar, which features World War II displays and aircraft used during the conflict. Also included in this hangar — and open for visitors — are exhibits about the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the Tuskegee Airmen.

Ongoing restoration work on a B-17G will be open for viewing in this area too, and guests will be able to ask restoration volunteers questions about the project.

Photo-ops and food trucks will be available on site along with STEM activities, Stomp Rockets, Model Glider Flights, and a playground/picnic area for younger guests.

Visitor parking will be available at the field by Anchor Glass across the street from the event. Shuttles will be available to transport guests from the Anchor parking lot to the entrance of the main museum, or guests can walk across the street themselves. Limited parking will be offered in front of the Space and Innovation Center for handicapped visitors.
