A Warning

In a year overflowing with books about Donald Trump, his personality and his impact, the forthcoming work credited to an unnamed senior Trump Administration official is set to be the most-discussed political book of the year, even in advance of its publication. In the weeks leading up to the book’s release, the Department of Justice issued a warning of its own to the author’s publisher, claiming that the book may be in violation of a non-disclosure agreement and subject to DOJ approval. Interest in this writer’s story has already been building for over a year: In September 2018, the anonymous author wrote an op-ed for the New York Times explaining how “senior officials in [Trump’s] own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.” Ever since, there has been ongoing speculation and debate about the identity of the writer, the veracity of his or her claims and the success of his or her strategy. A Warning promises to tell a deeper story, with descriptions of private discussions among White House officials about invoking the 25th Amendment and more news-making claims already creating headlines.
