Warnock addresses 'disturbing' Herschel Walker abortion scandal

After a campaign event on Thursday, Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., addressed allegations that his Republican rival, Herschel Walker, had paid for an abortion for a former girlfriend. "What we're hearing about my opponent is disturbing," Warnock told Yahoo News National Reporter Marquise Francis. “The people of Georgia have a real choice about who they think is ready to represent them,” he added.

- Senator Warnock, my name is Marquise from Yahoo News. So obviously, abortion is just the latest scandal to kind of rock this race. But your opponent, Herschel Walker, has also been called out for domestic violence, lack of being a father. Yet in a lot of polls, he's still close. Why do you think that is?

- I'll let the pundits do the punditry. But here is the thing. What we are hearing about my opponent is disturbing. And I think the people of Georgia have a real choice about who they think is ready to represent them in the United States.

- And one follow up. A lot of political strategists would say you're the most qualified candidate, and they would say your opponent is the least qualified. And yet a lot of Republicans in recent days are flat out saying whatever he does, they want to take that seat. And so do you feel like you're running just against Walker, or the Republican control machine backed by former President Donald Trump?

- I feel like I'm running for the people of Georgia. All the people of Georgia. Democrats and Republicans. And the folks who are independents. Because at the end of the day, I don't think that ordinary people think about their lives in partisan terms. I think they want to know who cares that they're struggling to pay for prescription drugs, which is why I capped the cost the prescription drugs. Folks who are suffering with diabetes or who have family members want to know is there someone who understands.

Well, as a pastor, I've had a lot of practice with standing at bedsides. I know the impact of this disease, which is why I pushed so hard to get that insulin cap. So I'm going to keep focused on doing the work the people of Georgia hired me to do. It really is the honor of my life. It's an amazing thing for your neighbors to say, we want you to represent us in the Senate. I see it as a sacred trust. I'll let the pundits do the punditry. I'm going to stay focused on the people.
