Warren releases plan to pay for Medicare for All

Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren said on Friday she won’t have to raise taxes on the middle class to pay for Medicare for All.

Warren said her healthcare plan would cost the U.S. government an extra $20.5 trillion over 10 years but said it would save American households $11 trillion in current out-of-pocket spending.

The Senator from Massachusetts has faced criticism from her Democratic rivals on how she could possibly afford such a sprawling plan...

Warren has maintained the plan will largely be financed through businesses and the wealthy.

The plan would replace private insurance, including employer-sponsored plans, with full Medicare coverage, and individuals would no longer have to pay premiums, deductibles, co-pays or similar out-of-pocket costs. Long-term care would also be covered.

More moderate candidates like Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg have said Medicare for All would be too expensive. They favor a more incremental approach.

Despite recent scrutiny, Warren has maintained her spot at or near the top of the pack in opinion polls.
