Warrenton officers fire at suspected Walmart shoplifter

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A suspected shoplifter allegedly rammed a police car in the parking lot of a Walmart in Warrenton Sunday night, prompting police to fire their guns.

The incident at the Walmart at 1791 SE Ensign Lane began when police were called about the in-progress theft. The suspect, later identified as Sean E. Mobley, left the store and got into a car. As he tried to get away, Mobley hit multiple things, including a Warrenton police car, Chief Mathew Workman said in a release

Officers at the scene “fired shots” but did not hit anyone. Workman said the officers and Mobley each suffered minor injuries during the arrest.

Once Mobley was cleared medically, he was booked into the Clatsop County Jail on nine separate charges, including attempted assault, resisting arrest, reckless endangering and reckless driving.

The 35-year-old Salem resident is currently on post-prison supervision in Marion County, officials said in the release.

The investigation into the entire incident, including the officers firing their weapon, continues by the Clatsop County Major Crime Team under the direction of the Clatsop County DA’s Office.
