Warriors honored

Sep. 21—WILLIMANTIC — Eastern Connecticut State University junior Emily Wallace was named women's soccer goalkeeper of the week on Monday by the Little East Conference.

Wallace extended her shut- out streak to 194 minutes with a pair of clean sheets on the road, including a 1- 0 victory over UMass- Boston in Eastern's Little East LEC opener.

Wallace equaled her career- high with nine saves, seven coming in the first half.

She also made six saves in a scoreless draw at Trinity as ECSU snapped a 4-game losing streak in the series against the Bantams.

Wallace, in her first season as ECSU's starting keeper, has a .086 goals against average and 88.9 save percentage.

Also, ECSU junior Ashton Lewis was named the Player of the Week in men's golf.

Lewis, last year's LEC Player and Rookie of the Year, took medalist honors with a 1-under-par round of 69 as the Warriors (289 points) won their own inviational for the second consecutive season at the Windham Golf Course last Wednesday.

Lewis shot a 2- under par 33 on the front nine and a 1-over par 36 on the back as he finished four strokes better than teammates Cal Angelo and Chris Davidson.

Last season, Lewis was named LEC Player and/ or Rookie of the Week five times.
