Wartburg hosts Tennessee Mountain Laurel Festival May 20-21

Spring has sprung on the Cumberland Plateau and planning is underway for the seventh anniversary of the region’s Tennessee Mountain Laurel Festival to be held May 20 through 21 on the Courthouse Square in Wartburg, Tenn.

Sponsored by the Morgan County Tourism Alliance, the Festival has events and activities for people of all ages and interests, according to a news release.

new water spray tunnel to cool off.

The weekend festivities begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 20, on the Courthouse Square with the MoCo Mutts Pet Parade followed by a concert by the Southern Steel Band from 7 until 9 p.m., concluding with a fireworks display by The Brushy Mountain Group.

Saturday’s activities kick off with the 2nd annual Tennessee Mountain Laurel Festival 5K Ridge Run. The run begins and ends at the Morgan County Visitor Center, 3804 Morgan County Highway in Wartburg. Registration and runner packet pick up can be made on site beginning at 7 a.m. The race will begin promptly at 8 a.m. For online registration, visit www.runsignup.com.

On Saturday, the Courthouse Square and surrounding streets will be packed with vendors, food trucks and games and activities, including corn hole, putt-putt golf, kids' games and a new water spray tunnel to cool off. Chattanooga Helicopter Tours will be offering helicopter rides throughout the day. The silent auction has a wide variety of items to bid on for purchase. Live musical performances will be held throughout the day.

The 62 Ale Trail which consists of the county’s three breweries (MoCo Brewing Project, Lilly Pad Hopyard Brewery and The Beer Barn) will host a beer tasting at the MoCo Brewing Project, 513 Court Street across from the Courthouse beginning at 10 a.m.. Historic Rugby Inc will be offering a Tea Tasting with Scones at the Historic Tanner Cafe from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will also bring their antique printing press, and you can print your very own 2022 Tennessee Mountain Laurel Souvenir T-shirt onsite.

The Historic Tanners Cafe will also be serving ice cream and tours of the newly restored building. The Tennessee Mountain Laurel Car Show will be held on the square from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Register your car or come view those on display.
