Washburn Rural boys win state title, full results from Topeka-area bowling teams at state

Another winter sport concluded its season this week, with the girls and boys state bowling tournaments taking place on Thursday and Friday in Wichita,

The Washburn Rural (6A), Seaman (5-1A) and Topeka West (5-1A) represented the Topeka-area teams at state.

Boys

After an early exit last year, the Washburn Rural boys returned nearly its entire lineup this year and came back with a vengeance.

They won the state title on Friday afternoon with a score of 3711, beating out Olathe Northwest (3576 and Garden City (3507) for the state title.

Josh Hammons had a team-high individual series of 725 followed by Logan Glinka (696), Walker Thompson (671), Geo Peoples (626), Reece Godby (560) and Tyler Faurot (495).

Hammons had the third best individual overall series at state with Glinka (7th) and Thompson (11th) also joining Hammons in the top 20 individual best scores.

Heading into the Baker games, Washburn Rural had a slim lead with a team total of 2,731 over Olathe Northwest (2,720), Olathe North (2,674) and Garden City (2,672).

A tournament best of 980 in the Baker games for Washburn Rural propelled them to the state title as they outscored Olathe Northwest (856), Olathe North (791) and Garden City (835) to come away with the win.

Girls

The Washburn Rural girls team finished sixth (2,874) at state behind Olathe East (3,269), Haysville Campus (3,074), Dodge City (2,977), Olathe Northwest (2,958) and Garden City (2,928).

Claire Ireland had a team-best 586 in the individual series followed by Gabby Martinez (540), Ashley Billups (539), Liz Poling (497), Taylin Sakers (476) and Hailey Beyer (433).

Ireland's score in the individual series was 11th best in the 6A field.

5-1A

Seaman

Boys

The Seaman boys followed up a state title with another great finish at state, placing third (3,397) behind Piper (3,522) and Trinity Academy (3,474).

Ethan Burns had a team-high in the individual series (643) and was followed by Dominic Figueroa (623), Alex Prescott (618), Riley Parkhurst (595), Braxton Moore (590) and Zander White (568).

Girls

JaeLinn Thetford was a newcomer to the team last year and was the second best bowler in the indivudal series this year at state for the team.

After winning a state title last year, the Seaman girls kept things rolling this year, finishing third (3,007) at state behind Great Bend (3,161) and Salina South (3,078) out of 12 teams.

Katie Price (637) led the team in individual series followed by JaeLinn Thetford (624), Cheyenne Turkin (552), Claire LaDuke (497), Kayla Mize (444) and Laci Cole (392).

Price had the second-best individual overall series, Thetford was third and Turkin was 20th.

Topeka West

Boys

Dason Tidwell and Alec Rutschmann represented the Topeka West boys as individuals.

Tidwell finished with an individual series score of 495 while Rutschmann finished with a 468.

Girls

The Topeka West girls placed 10th at state.

Leading the team in individual series was Brenna Rutschmann (556) followed by Megan Wood (547), Karlee Gilbreath (462), Hannah Allen (455), Reagan Kell (448) and Jordan Felsburg (282).
