STILLWATER, Okla. — Owen Washburn capped a seven-run inning with a grand slam and Brandon Birdsell moved into a tie for the Big 12 lead in pitching victories, leading No. 8 Texas Tech over No. 3 Oklahoma State 9-3 Saturday night.

Birdsell (8-2) went seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out five. He's gone at least seven innings in his past three starts, getting the win in all three.

Griffin Doersching homered off Birdsell in the bottom of the fourth, making it a 1-1 game.

The Red Raiders blew it open in the fifth, which started with a leadoff homer from Hudson White. With one out, Tech loaded the bases on a Dillon Carter walk, an Easton Murrell double and Cole Stilwell being hit by a pitch.

Jace Jung singled home a run, and Ty Coleman got an RBI on a fielding error at shortstop. Two batters later, with two outs and the bases loaded, Washburn unloaded an opposite homer to left field that made the score 8-1.

Kurt Wilson hit his 12th home run, a solo shot, in the ninth.

TCU won on Saturday at Kansas, and Oklahoma lost against West Virginia. The combination of those two outcomes and the Red Raiders' second consecutive victory over the Cowboys maintained the logjam at the top of the Big 12 standings.

TCU (31-15, 15-8) has a one-game lead on Tech (34-16, 13-7) and Oklahoma State (34-16, 13-7), a 1 1/2-game lead on Oklahoma (30-18, 12-8) and a 2 1/2-game edge on West Virginia (30-19, 11-9).

OSU starter Bryce Osmond (4-2), lifted after 4 1/3 innings, was charged with five runs on three hits and three walks. He struck out seven.

The teams complete the series with a game at 1 p.m. Sunday.
