Washington Co. enhancing voting accessibility for upcoming election season

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) – In an effort to enhance the electoral process and accommodate the increasing number of early voters, Jennifer Price, the Director of Elections for Washington County, says the county is “working to make the process smooth and accessible”.

One change this year is the introduction of limited voting, hopefully enhancing accessibility for voters throughout the county. Limited voting means that the county will work to provide more early voting locations.

Jennifer Price revealed that since the 2016 elections, there has been a surge in the number of voters opting for early voting in Washington County. Recognizing the growth of early voting, Price expressed the importance of aligning the county’s election practices with the evolving trends.

“Early voting makes it easier for both voters and the county administration. If everyone were to wait until Election Day, the challenge would be the lack of voting equipment, poll workers, and locations,” Price emphasized.

“We’ve been closely monitoring the voting trends in Washington County, and it’s evident that early voting is gaining popularity each year. Our efforts are geared towards sustaining this growth in early votes,” Price stated.

In an effort to provide clarity to the community, Jennifer Price emphasized that early voting for the upcoming elections is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, Feb. 20. This differs from previous years because early voting usually starts on the Monday two weeks before the election, as this year, Feb. 19 falls on a federal holiday.
