Washington County 2022 primary election results

Washington County will choose local, state and federal nominees in Maryland's primary election on Tuesday, July 19.

For governor, Republican candidates seeking nomination are Dan Cox, Robin Ficker, Kelly Schulz and Joe Werner. Democratic candidates include Rushern L. Baker III, Jon Baron, Peter Franchot, Douglas L. Gansler, Ralph W. Jaffe, Ashwani Jain, John King, Wes Moore, Tom Perez and Jerome M. Segal.

In the state comptroller's race, Republican Barry Glassman is running unopposed while Tim Adams and Brooke Elizabeth Lierman face off for the Democratic nomination.

Maryland congressional races

For U.S. Senate, Democratic incumbent Chris Van Hollen faces a primary challenge from Michelle L. Smith. On the Republican side, those seeking their party's nomination include Chris Chaffee, George Davis, Nnabu Eze, Lorie R. Friend, Reba A. Hawkins, Jon, McGreevey, Joseph Perez, Todd A. Puglisi, James Tarantin and John Thormann.

In the U.S. House of Representatives' 6th Congressional District, Democratic incumbent David Trone is facing primary challenges from George Gluck, Ben Smilowitz and Heba Machado Zayas. Meanwhile Republican candidates seeking their party's nomination include Colt M. Black, Matthew Foldi, Jonathan Jenkins, Neil C. Parrott, Robert Poissonnier and Mariela Roca.

Washington County races

Several county offices that are up for election have competitive races, including county commissioner, sheriff, treasurer, judges of the orphan's court, and circuit court judge.

There are 15 people, including four incumbents, seeking the Republican nomination for the five open commissioner seats. Incumbents Charles Burkett, Jeffrey A. Cline, Wayne Keefer and Randall Wagner are facing John F. Barr, Victoria Beachley, Ron Bowers, Bob Bruchey, David Wayne Ebersole, Derek Harvey, Jamie B. Lawrence, Valerie Oliver, Kaden S. Snyder, Michael Lynn Sprecher III, and Brian Tana. On the Democratic side, only two candidates — Sterling Sanders and Dave Williams — are likely to move on to the general election.

Three Republicans are running for county sheriff, including Brian Albert, Greg Alton and Jim Holsinger. Junior McLeod is the only Democrat on the ballot.

Republicans Robert M. Breeding and Mam Malick Thiam are facing off for county treasurer.

Orphans' court:Four candidates tackle questions about Orphans' Court judge

For judge of the Washington County Orphans' Court, Republican incumbents Paul D. Banister and Jim Nipps are facing Republican challengers Debra A. Breeding and Anthony Scott Lowman. There are no Democrats on the ballot, and three seats are up for election.

In the race for county circuit court judge, incumbent Joe Michael, who was appointed last year to fill the unexpired term of retiring Judge Daniel P. Dwyer, is seeking his own 15-year term. He faces a challenge from attorney Adam Daniel Greivell.

Washington County's local races for Maryland General Assembly

In Maryland District 2A, Republican incumbent William Joseph Wivell will face challengers Bradley Belmont, William Valentine and Seth Edward Wilson in the primary. In District 2B, Republican incumbent Brenda Thiam faces a primary challenge from Thomas Stolz, while Democrats Brooke Grossman and Ladetra Robinson are competing for the party nod.

In Maryland's Senate District 1, three candidates are vying to replace retiring Sen. George Edwards. Republicans Mike McKay and Jake Shade are competing for their party's nomination while Democrat Michael Dreisbach is running unopposed.
