Washington County: Brummel tapped to be county health director

Oct. 22—David Brummel, deputy director of Washington County Department of Public Health and Environment since 2014, has been promoted.

Brummel, 46, of Mahtomedi, takes over the top spot from Lowell Johnson, who retired Oct. 1.

Before coming to Washington County, Brummel worked for Hennepin County for 13 years, including stints as a community health program supervisor, senior administrative assistant and senior planning analyst.

He said he became interested in working in public health while serving in the Peace Corps in the Republic of Kiribati, a small island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Brummel has a bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., and a master's degree in teaching from Hamline University in St. Paul.
