Washington County Fairgrounds to host third annual Fiddlers’ Convention

ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) – The third annual Old-Time, Bluegrass, and Bluegrass Gospel Fiddlers’ Convention will take place at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Abingdon, Virginia on Jun. 21-23.

The Washington County Fairgrounds Board of Directors made the announcement Thursday.

A celebration of Smoky Mountain music heritage, the event will provide a weekend of live music and competition among bluegrass musicians for more than $8,500 in prize money. The winner of the newly added Bluegrass Gospel Band Competition will be awarded one day of recording at the Billy Blue Records studio in Hendersonville, TN for free.

The convention is a fundraiser to raise money for capital improvement projects for the property and to create opportunities to host more community events throughout the year at the fairgrounds. There is also a youth scholarship being created to help further music education for the next generation.

Pre-Fiddlers’ events during the week, or what is being coined as Fiddlers’ Week, will be held in Washington County to commemorate the convention starting Jun. 16, leading into the weekend.

Ticket prices for the weekend:

  • Friday: $10 for adults and $3 for youth.

  • Saturday: $15 for adults and $3 for youth.

  • Sunday: $5 for adults. $3 for youth.

  • Weekend bands: $25 for adults and $5 for youth.

  • Dry RV Camping: $35.

  • Tent Camping: $10 per tent.

Children 12 years old and under are free to get in, along with musicians who are competing.

The event will be held outside with an inside option for inclement weather. Food trucks will be present for those looking for a quick bite during the event.
