Washington County football Week 6: Hubs outlast Williamsport in 2OT; Leopards, Rebels and Warriors also win

North Hagerstown 13, Williamsport 12 (2OT)

In front of their homecoming crowd at Callas Stadium on Friday night, the Hubs (3-3) outlasted the Wildcats (4-2) in double overtime after the game was tied 6-6 at the end of regulation.

After each team failed to score on first-and-goal from the 10-yard line in the first overtime period, Williamsport got the ball first in 2OT and took its first lead of the night, 12-6, on a 5-yard touchdown run by Cayden Palamar.

North stopped the Wildcats’ attempt at a two-point conversion, and then tied the game on the next play as quarterback Luke Kercheval connected with Mahamane Toure in the end zone for a 10-yard TD.

Ethan Stevens then delivered the walk-off kick, drilling his extra-point attempt through the uprights for the victory.

The Hubs went up 6-0 in the second quarter on a 5-yard TD run by Zach Moore.

Williamsport tied it in the third quarter on a 68-yard TD run by Cole Rourke, who finished with a game-high 146 yards rushing on 25 carries.

Kercheval led North's offense, completing 20 of 36 passes for 242 yards. The 20 completions are the third most in a single game in school history, while the 242 yards rank seventh all-time.

Serge Kwezituka caught four passes for 82 yards to lead the Hubs' receivers.

John Robinson led North's defense with 12 tackles (nine solo) and an interception.

Midway through the first quarter, Wildcats QB Eli Fleming left the game with an apparent injury after being sacked by Austin Shaw. Corry Nelson took the snaps the rest of the night, completing 6 of 15 passes for 73 yards with an interception.

Ceonta Wilmore had three catches for 52 yards for Williamsport.

Smithsburg 20, Clear Spring 0

Smithsburg’s flavor of the day was vanilla. Still, it was pretty tasty.

The Leopards (2-4) relied on basic, no-frills football, using power runs in the middle of the line to pull out a victory over Clear Spring (0-6).

That allowed them to set up two short touchdown passes for Zac Smith before Vincent Roncone broke a 34-yard run late in the game to give Smithsburg all it needed for its second win of the season.

The Leopards featured junior running back Ashton Redman for most of the night with off-tackle runs as Smithsburg methodically moved the ball. The plan allowed Smithsburg to stay on offense and shorten the game by milking the clock at the same time.

After a scoreless first quarter, Smithsburg made its first consistent drive, capping it off at 8:15 of the second quarter. Smith found Redman on the left sideline for a 4-yard touchdown pass and a 7-0 lead the Leopards carried into the half.

Smithsburg took a 14-0 lead in the third quarter on another power drive. Smith hit Willie Weakfall in the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown at the 5:50 mark.

The Leopards capped the game in the fourth quarter after a Redman interception. Roncone swept the right end and went down the sideline for his TD run with 3:08 remaining. The conversion failed, cementing the 20-point victory.

Clear Spring had two golden chances to score, reaching the Smithsburg 15 twice. But after a 65-yard pass from Hunter Oaks to Todd Weaver late in the first half and a blocked punt in the second half, the Blazers lost yardage in both tries and came away empty.

South Hagerstown 31, Thomas Johnson 19

Lance Ford ran for three touchdowns and passed for another, leading the Rebels (2-4) to a homecoming win over the Patriots (0-6) at School Stadium.

In the second quarter, Ford had a 13-yard TD run and later scored on a goal-line rush, giving South a 17-7 halftime lead.

Ford’s 1-yard TD run in the third quarter extended the lead to 24-7, and his 37-yard TD pass to Teriq Morris made it 31-13 with 3:40 left in the game.

Rebels kicker Nathan Myers went 4-for-4 in extra-point attempts and booted a field goal.

Boonsboro 41, Towson 14

Wyatt Jervis rushed for four touchdowns as the Warriors (3-3) dominated the visiting Generals (0-6) for the second straight year.

Also for Boonsboro, Matt Summer had a TD pass to Luke Churchey, and Zach Fazenbaker scored on a fumble return.

SEED 54, Hancock 0

SEED improved to 2-2 with the win over the host Panthers (0-6) on Thursday.

For Hancock, Aiden McCarty rushed for 37 yards, averaged 25.8 yards on five kick returns and shared the team high in tackles with three.

Flint Hill 51, Saint James 7

The Mid-Atlantic Conference title defense won’t be easy for Saint James.

Flint Hill quarterback Manloi Karageorgos dissected Saint James’ defense with five touchdown passes – including two each to Vincent McNeal III and Ty Harris – as the Huskies dismantled the defending league champs Saturday.

Karageorgos’ array of passes riddled Saint James' defense as the Huskies (3-2) broke a number of big plays on short tosses. Five of the seven touchdowns scored covered more than 20 yards.

Flint Hill scored twice in the first quarter before Will Gisriel powered to a 6-yard score for the Saints (3-3) with 1:52 to go in the first quarter. The Huskies followed by scoring the final 37 points.

Karageorgos opened the scoring with a 24-yard TD to Harris with 9:54 to go in the first quarter. Running back Andrew King followed by hitting Joshua Clarke on an option pass for a 73-yard TD to make it 14-0.

After Gisriel scored, King gave the Huskies a 21-7 lead with a 59-yard run up the middle with 11:29 remaining in the half.

Karageorgos followed with a 29-yard scoring strike to McNeal at the 9:03 mark of the second quarter. The pair hooked up for another scoring pass of 29 yards in the second half, and Karageorgos found Clarke for a 13-yard TD in the second half.

Dylan Logue hit a 39-yard field goal to give Flint Hill a 31-7 lead at the half.

Karageorgos’ fifth TD was a short pass that Harris turned into a 64-yard score.
