Washington County, parts of PA and WV could see thunderstorms, hail Wednesday night

Parts of Washington County and Morgan County in West Virginia are under a severe thunderstorm warning Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service reported.

In Franklin County, Pa., the weather service also is warning of severe weather.

At 5:20 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was seen on radar near Berkeley Springs, W.Va., or 9 miles northeast of Paw Paw, moving north at 25 mph.

Quarter-sized hail was likely, according to the bulletin from the weather service. Some hail damage to agriculture is expected.

Isolated severe thunderstorms and scattered instances of flooding are possible through Wednesday night, the weather service reported. A flood watch is in effect for portions of Washington County, as well as the eastern panhandle of West Virginia and north-central Virginia.

In Franklin County, the weather service reported there could be periods of heavy rain Wednesday night that could lead to isolated flooding, particularly in localized areas that can experience rapid runoff, such as urban corridors and low lying/poor drainage areas.
