Washington County Public Schools announces finalists for 2024 support person of the year

Washington County Public Schools announced on Monday the five finalists for 2024 Educational Support Personnel (ESP) of the Year.

The finalists are Shannon Gronholm, Norma Kelley, Amy Moats, Krista Stotler and Samantha Strasser.

The 2024 ESP of the Year will be announced March 13 during an award ceremony at the Cortland Mansion, according to a school system news release.

Finalists represent five categories: administrative support, student support, transportation, food and nutrition services, and maintenance and operations.

They were nominated by colleagues, parents, students, co-workers and community members.

Meet the finalists for WCPS 2024 ESP of the Year

  • Shannon Gronholm represents food and nutrition services. Gronholm is the senior manager for food and nutrition services at the Center for Education Services along Downsville Pike. She previously was the person in charge of receiving schools (PICORS) at Western Heights Middle School in Hagerstown's West End. She has been helping ensure students have nutritious school meals for 12 years.

  • Norma Kelley represents transportation. Kelley is a bus driver serving students from Rockland Woods Elementary, Eastern Elementary, South Hagerstown High School, and Ruth Ann Monroe Primary School in the Hagerstown area. She has been helping WCPS students for 11 years.

  • Amy Moats represents administrative support. Moats is an administrative assistant III at Springfield Middle School in Williamsport. She's been at Springfield the past four years and has been working for WCPS for 12 years. She also served as a special education paraprofessional at Bester Elementary School in Hagerstown and as a school secretary at Ruth Ann Monroe Primary.

  • Krista Stotler represents maintenance and operations. Stotler is the head custodian at Clear Spring Elementary, where she has worked during her 19 years with WCPS. Before becoming a full-time employee, Stotler was a parent volunteer and substitute for 13 years.

  • Samantha Strasser represents student support. Strasser is a special education connections paraprofessional for the Job Development Program at Marshall Street School in Hagerstown's West End. She has helped students at Marshall Street during her 10-year career with WCPS.
