Washington County woman killed Monday in Iowa City car accident

A Wellman woman was killed in a multi-car accident in Iowa City on Monday.

Kristina Pearson, 30, was driving with a passenger in the northbound lane on Boyrum Street when a truck traveling east struck her vehicle on the driver's side. The collision occurred at the intersection with Highway 6 at 12:58 p.m., where Pearson's car then struck a third vehicle.

Pearson and her passenger were taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for injuries sustained in the crash. Pearson was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

She turned 30 on July 29.

The passenger remains at the hospital in critical condition, police said. A memorial fund for Pearson will also help the passenger recover, according to a brief obituary posted for Pearson.

Drake Brezina, 24, of Riverside, was the driver of the eastbound truck and was cited for a red light violation.

The case remains ongoing and additional charges are possible, Iowa City police said in a release.
