Washington High School Principal David Lautenschleger said Reed graduated in 2020. Reed was a member of the school's pep club and ran cross country, he said.

"We feel badly for his family and friends, and our thoughts and prayers are with them," Lautenschleger said.

North Lawrence Fire was assisted by Lawrence Township fire and police, Canal Fulton and Massillon police agencies as well as the Highway Patrol.

A member of Reed's family declined to comment.

Dozens of community members, including Massillon area businesses, have taken to social media memorializing Reed.

"He has so much fun supporting the Massillon Tigers as a Village Idiot (the school spirit squad.) He attended Ohio University and was currently employed as a service technician at Progressive Chevrolet," according to his obituary.

Reed is survived by his parents, Ryan and Kimberly, sister Jordan and other family.

The obituary notes his organs were donated to save the lives of others.
