Washington opens as slight underdogs in Week 1 matchup with Chargers

The Washington Football Team will kick off the 2021 season with a home date against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Early odds from BetMGM are rolling in, and Washington will begin the 2021 season as underdogs. BetMGM has installed the Chargers as a slight -1 favorite over the Football Team.

Washington and Los Angeles are coming off similar seasons in 2020. Washington finished the season with a 7-9 record, while the Chargers also finished the season at 7-9. However, perceptions were different around the two teams as Washington won the dreadful NFC East.

Los Angeles’ performance in 2020 cost former head coach Anthony Lynn his job, despite a breakout season by rookie quarterback Justin Herbert. Meanwhile, Washington coach Ron Rivera was in the first year of a major rebuilding job.

These two franchises have met 11 times, with Washington leading the series, 7-4. The two teams last met in 2017 when the Chargers defeated the WFT, 30-13.

The Chargers have won four of the previous five meetings.
